Why building a school in Liberia is so important

Millions of children in Africa lack access to schools, which means they don’t get the education they need to succeed as adults. The world has committed to change this through the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, which call for universal primary education by 2030. While this goal may seem ambitious, there are many reasons why it’s critical that it will be met soon.

Education is a fundamental human right, but it’s also a fundamental necessity. When we have a more educated population, society progresses and prospers. That’s why it’s so important to build schools in Liberia and other parts of our world that are struggling with poverty and civil unrest. Every child deserves access to quality education, including children living in developing countries.

Education and poverty

According to UNESCO, lack of education is one of the main factors contributing to African poverty. In fact, an estimated 85 percent of children living in Sub-Saharan Africa are not getting any formal education at all. And when you consider that nearly 40 percent of those living below $1 per day live in rural areas, you can see how imperative it is for children to have access to a good education. It is their only chance to lift themselves out of poverty and become more self-sufficient.

Of all the statistics out there, none is more disheartening than that of global education. The UN reports that of 59 million children currently not in school, an astounding 38% live in sub-Saharan Africa. If a child attends school and graduates with grades at or above average, they will earn 70% more money as an adult than if they had dropped out of school. Giving children a quality education is arguably one of the best ways to change their lives for the better and improve society overall.

You can make a difference

Africa is a continent full of potential. There’s potential for life-saving medicines, promising crops, and lucrative businesses. The problem is that for any of these opportunities to come about, African countries need a way for their people—specifically their youth—to have access to qualitative education.

If you are looking for ways to make a difference, please look at the donation program of My Little Haven. No matter where you live or how much time you have, it’s possible to make a positive impact on the life of a child in Liberia. My Little Haven is a non-profit organization that wants to create safe havens for the children where they can get education, healthcare and much more. One of our projects is to build a school for the lovely children of Liberia, because they deserve it so much and it is much needed. By making a donation, you can help us with the first steps towards building a school.
