The problems that children in Liberia deal with
Liberia is one of the most impoverished countries in Africa and has been in a state of civil war for the past 14 years. The country is ranked 168 out of 188 in the Human Development Index. Just like every other country, Liberia has its own set of problems that affect children, such as poverty, lack of education, abuse, losing their parents and more. This blog is meant to give these children a voice and raise awareness of their struggles. You will also be given tools to help the children in Liberia.
Poverty and its effects
The average Liberian earns about $1.25 a day and the country has an unemployment rate of 85%. Poverty creates a lot of problems for the children. Because their parents can’t afford things like food, shelter and education, the children don’t get a chance to build a life for themselves. Because of the lack of education, children remain illiterate and without any skills for making a living when they grow up. This is one of the reasons why it is so important to build schools in Liberia that all children can go to. My Little Haven is actively working on a project for building a school in Liberia. Here you can read more about schools in Liberia.
No safe haven
Children who have been born in poverty and never got education, are more likely to end up as street children, child laborers and victims of abuse. Liberia also has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world, with nearly half of all girls getting married before they turn 18. Some of the girls are also victims of female genital modification, which is an old belief.
As is clear now, the children in Liberia don’t get the safe haven they deserve. Most of the time they don’t have food, a bed, or even parents. Many children lost their parents due to Ebola or Covid-19.
My Little Haven
The problem of children in Africa is a very broad, global issue. It is not just a problem in Liberia, but it is a problem all over Africa. My Little Haven is there for these children. We want to give them the critical support they need. We want to do this by building a school, providing them with healthcare, creating a playground for them and offering them a safe haven. To let them be a child again. To do what we do, we need your help! You can make a real difference for these children by making a donation to My Little Haven. All the donations will be put directly into the projects that we are currently working on in Liberia. You can make a donation on our donation page.
